Shinshi are bamboo tenterhooks with pins on either end. They are attached to the selvidge of the fabric to keep it taut. This makes the fabric easier to paint or dip into indigo.
I brought back some shinshi from Japan but alas, not enough for long pieces so i have to be creative in order to use them.Such a simple yet efficient tool! By the way, I hope you don't mind my adding your blog to my links list. neki
